Coronary artery bypass surgery, also known as coronary artery bypass graft surgery (CABG) is a surgical procedure in which arteries or veins taken from elsewhere in the patient's body are grafted onto the coronary arteries in order to bypass atherosclerotic narrowings and improve the blood supply to the coronary circulation supplying the myocardium (heart muscle). The aim of the procedure is to relieve the symptoms of angina and reduce the risk of myocardial infarction (heart attack).
